Earn your Master of Music at MSU

Whether you choose to pursue a focus in music performance or to practice music education, the Master of Music programs at MSU will provide you with a quality learning experience that is both affordable and flexible.

Music Education

Designed for the practicing music educator, you can complete your master's in music education in one year through a combination of online and face-to-face courses without having to take leave from your teaching duties. During the fall and spring semesters, you may take your coursework completely online and complete face-to-face requirements during only one summer session.

This program provides a curriculum that is accessible and flexible. Music education allows you time for a significant amount of study in instrumental and choral conducting, brass, woodwinds, percussion, keyboard instruments, guitar and jazz with additional opportunities to study music history, literature and education. Course options in this program also allow for the study of Kodaly to achieve national Kodaly certification.

Music Performance

For students with a performance focus, the Master of Music with an Area of Concentration in Performance focuses your study on a specialization in voice, instrumental and choral conducting, composition, brass, woodwinds, percussion, keyboard instruments, guitar or jazz.

Start off on the right track with pre-engineering

If you are interested in becoming a professional engineer, it’s important for you to take the right classes to prepare you for pre-professional school, graduate school or a career in engineering.

At Morehead State, students have a number of options to set them on the right track to success. You can begin your pre-engineering studies here at MSU and choose one of three options, which will allow you to transfer your credits at MSU towards an engineering bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. at an accredited institution.

Transfer options include:
  • 2-2 pre-engineering program: This program allows students to obtain a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Students attend MSU for two years and take the required general education, chemistry, math, physics and engineering courses, then transfer to an accredited institution for two years to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 3-2 pre-engineering program: This program allows students to earn two bachelor’s degrees. Students attend MSU for three years and take the required general education, chemistry, math, physics and engineering courses, then transfer to an accredited institution for two years to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering from the transfer institution and a bachelor's degree in physics from MSU.
  • 4-2 engineering program: This program allows students to earn both a bachelor’s and an advanced degree. Students attend MSU for 4 years majoring in an engineering-related field, such as mechanicalelectricalcomputationalapplied or professional physics, then transfer to an accredited post graduate program to obtain a master's degree in engineering.
