Spanish degrees offer exciting career opportunities

Spanish is spoken in more than 20 countries around the world, and has become the second language of the United States.

A background in Spanish may provide career opportunities in government work, international business, translating and interpreting, teaching and tourism. MSU offers a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Education with Teacher Certification (P-12) for students interested in the language and culture of the Spanish speaking world.

MSU’s programs provide rigorous training, supplemented by several exciting overseas study opportunities. You may have the opportunity to participate in research being conducted on classroom language acquisition as well as opportunities to engage in culture and language through Hispanic culture, history, literature and film both on campus and in the community.

The certification program for teacher licensure in Spanish prepares students to be Spanish teachers in secondary settings or in immersion schools. You will have the opportunity to engage in real-life practice and will enter the professional world of education with a strong theoretical background coupled with practical application. Our teacher education candidates complete the multi-faceted program as successful teachers who are competitive frontrunners for Spanish teaching positions.

MSU also offers a minor in Spanish, which complements degrees in business, government and a variety of degrees in the humanities.

MSU's ROTC program offers students opportunities for service and leadership

Morehead State University’s Department of Military Science provides a curriculum qualifying you for a commission as a Second Lieutenant Officer in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. Traditionally a four-year program, Army ROTC consists of basic (100 and 200 level) and advanced (300 and 400 level) courses. MSU’s two-year ROTC program allows juniors, community college students and others who missed ROTC during their first two years at MSU to qualify for a commission.

Army ROTC instruction increases your career opportunities by expanding your experiences while in college, giving you options and potential for either a civilian or military career. In order to obtain commission you must be medically qualified, meet all pre-commissioning requirements (established by the Army) and complete a program of study for a degree (bachelor’s degree or higher).

All ROTC classes at MSU count as elective credit toward graduation. Cadets that receive their commission are awarded a minor in military science.
