Employment opportunities for students interested in learning a second language are on the rise

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "employment of interpreters and translators is projected to grow 29 percent from 2014-2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.” MSU offers degrees in Spanish and Spanish with teacher certification (P-12). For students interested in the language and culture, a background in Spanish may provide career opportunities in industries where knowledge of a second language is beneficial, including business and commerce, translating and interpreting, government work, teaching, tourism, social services and more.

Spanish is spoken in more than 20 countries around the world, and has become the second language of the United States. MSU’s programs provide rigorous training, supplemented by several exciting overseas study opportunities. You may have the opportunity to participate in research being conducted on classroom language acquisition as well as opportunities to engage in culture and language through Hispanic culture, history, literature and film both on campus and in the community. 

You may also participate in activities and opportunities that provide real-world, hands-on experience, including:

  • Tutoring in local schools
  • Service learning courses or activities using Spanish
  • Translation projects in a variety of for-profit and non-profit settings
  • Internships using knowledge of a second language

Biology programs give students tools to succeed

If you’re interested in a career in science, let Morehead State help you start your journey with one of our biology degree programs.
You can choose between a degree in biology, which focuses on environmental and organismal sciences; a biology teaching degree, which prepares you for a career as an educator; or a biomedical sciences degree, which prepares you to attend health professional school. You can choose from the following biomedical science specialties:
  • General biomedical science

  • Pre-Dentistry

  • Pre-Pharmacy
  • Pre-Physical Therapy

Students who graduate with a degree in biomedical sciences from Morehead State are accepted to professional schools at rates that well exceed the state and national averages:
  • Pre-Dentistry=100% accepted
  • Pre-Medicine=90% accepted
  • Pre-Physician Assistant= 85 % accepted
  • Pre-Pharmacy=88%
  • Pre-Physical Therapy=70% accepted

All of our biology degrees combine classroom lecture and hands-on learning opportunities to give you both the knowledge and skills you need to succeed.  You can also become an undergraduate research fellow, which allows you to work side-by-side with faculty members on exciting research projects. The Undergraduate Research Fellowship gives you the opportunity to do original research with faculty guidance and to have your research published and to present at professional conferences.

Public Management & Government programs prepare future leaders

If you’re interested in a career in politics, Morehead State’s Department of Public Management & Government has a range of programs designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to be an effective leader. 
We offer a number of undergraduate degree options, including:
  • Political Science (Government) - learn about political ideas and institutions, foreign relations, policies and political law.
  • Political Science (Government) with an area of emphasis in Regional Analysis & Public Policy - work with citizens, political leaders and policy makers to create research projects and action plans that address issues in the region.
  • Public Policy - Students will acquire the skills to study a wide range of policy areas together with an understanding of the policy making process and the interdependencies of local, state and federal governments in the development and implementation of policy.

In addition, we offer an undergraduate certificate in intelligence studies, and you can choose from the following specialization options:
  • Intelligence Collection and Analysis

MSU has nursing options for students at every level

Whether you are an incoming freshman or a working professional looking to take your career to the next level, Morehead State offers a nursing program to suit your needs. We offer the following nursing degrees:
  • Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADNP) – this program is designed for first-time students.
  • Paramedic–to–RN Associate Degree Nursing Program-designed for students who are already licensed paramedics who are seeking a degree in nursing.
  • Nursing pre-licensure program- this program is designed for incoming, first-time students who are interested in a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Nursing post-licensure program- this online program is designed for licensed nurses who are seeking a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

MSU’s nursing programs give you hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art Center for Health, Education, & Research (CHER). There, students will work with simulation mannequins that mimic a range of ailments and symptoms and respond to treatments. Students are also required to complete clinical requirements, giving them hands-on experience with live patients in real-world medical settings.
Morehead State’s nursing programs have a selective admissions process, and a limited number of students are accepted each year.
