MSU's Canadian studies minor supports opportunities for careers in international law and politics

Canadian studies at Morehead State University provides an excellent foundation for liberal arts students interested in seeking careers in international law, politics and more.

Students learn important interdisciplinary research and analytics skills and gain an understanding of the economic, political, cultural and social history of Canada.

Study begins with the introductory course, Perspectives on Canada, and shifts to focus on social policies from comparative and international perspectives. Students conclude the minor by participating in a summer internship with the Canadian Parliament.

MSU junior, Kennedy Womack, says she is grateful for the insight she gained during her internship.

“I have learned an incredible amount about the parliamentary process, including how legislation is passed, the level of partisanship in the government and the issues that are frequently debated. My goal is to one day become a lawyer and possibly go into politics. This experience opened my mind to political life and the way the governmental system works. I highly recommend the program to anyone who enjoys government and has similar goals.”

For more information about the minor, visit the Department of History, Philosophy, International Studies and Legal Studies website at www.moreheadstate.edu/hpil.
