Animal Science prepares students for careers

The animal science program at Morehead State will prepare you for a career in agriculture. The program is an area of concentration in agricultural sciences, meaning you will receive intensive instruction in the field, and you are not required to select a minor.

As a student, you’ll learn about livestock production and management, reproduction, breeding and nutrition. You’ll gain not only knowledge, but practical skills through hands-on learning opportunities at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex, where you will work with beef cattle, swine, sheep, horses and more.

A degree in animal science will prepare you for a number of careers, including:
·      Livestock, equine or companion animal management
·      Livestock marketing
·      Research and development
·      Sales
·      Governmental agencies

Traditional music program provides students with extensive performance experience

Creative cultural interaction in Appalachia has produced many distinctive styles of music. In the Bachelor of Arts in Traditional Music program at MSU you will study bluegrass, old time, country, ballad singing, blues, Celtic, western swing and more. You will receive hands-on experience in the form of performances, as well as opportunities to interact with musical artists and professionals in the industry. You will also study traditional music forms and its culture from both a historical and contemporary perspective.
MSU is home to the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music (KCTM). As a student you will have access to KCTM’s large collection of music archives and will participate in outreach events with experienced faculty members.
Our graduates are prepared to pursue careers as performers (soloists in small and large ensembles) and music industry specialists (retail, publishing, technology and management). A bachelor's in traditional music will also prepare you for advanced graduate school study.

MSU now offering intelligence studies certificates

If you are interested in a career that will allow you to make our nation more secure, Morehead State University now offers undergraduate and graduate certificates in intelligence studies.  The certificate programs will give you the skills to detect, monitor and neutralize security threats for companies, industries and government agencies.

You can take classes to earn your intelligence studies certificate while you earn your bachelor’s or master’s degree, and the certificates complement degrees from a wide range of other fields. If you’ve already earned your degree, you can earn your intelligence studies certificate as a post-baccalaureate or graduate student.

As a student pursuing the certification, you’ll take classes in government, computer science, criminology and more. The undergraduate certificate offers several specialization options, which will prepare you for a career in a specific intelligence-related field. Specialization options include:
  • Intelligence collection and analysis
  • Threat specialist
  • Regional analysis
  • Science and technology
  • Global finance and governance
A certificate in intelligence will prepare you for a career in law enforcement, homeland security, computer security and much more.

MSU's child development degree provides preparation for careers in operating private child care programs

Morehead State’s Bachelor of Arts in Child Development is a non-teaching area of concentration program for students interested in studying the stages of child development and factors that impact the development of children. The program will prepare you for careers working in and running private child care and day care programs.

You will gain knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and will prepare instruction and learning environments for children with and without disabilities. Graduates of our program are equipped to design early childhood programs, which follow state child care regulations and are able to articulate child development management strategies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of preschool and childcare center directors is expected to grow 17 percent from 2012-2022, faster than the average for all occupations.

Imaging science degrees prepare students for health care careers

Morehead State’s Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Imaging Sciences offers a number of degrees in imaging sciences designed to prepare students for rewarding, in-demand careers in health care.

The associate degree program in radiologic sciences is a three-year program, and will prepare you for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ certification exam. 

We offer bachelor’s degrees in computed tomography and magnetic resonance, and diagnostic medical sonography. Both degrees will prepare you for careers in medical centers, hospitals, doctors offices and outpatient medical imaging centers.

All of these programs involve not only traditional classroom lectures, but also hands-on learning in labs at the Center for Health, Education and Research. Students in these programs are also required to complete practicum training in real-world health care settings.

In addition, we also offer a bachelor’s degree in leadership in medical imaging. This fully online program is designed to help working professionals in imaging sciences earn their degree in a way that fits into their busy lifestyles.

Health Promotion programs prepare you for a career in wellness

If a career of promoting a healthy lifestyle interests you, consider the health promotion program at Morehead State. Our program will teach you how to help individuals and communities achieve and maintain wellness through diet, exercise and education.

Through courses in anatomy, nutrition, health counseling and more, you’ll gain the knowledge to help people be healthy. You’ll also participate in clinical practicums that will give you the hands-on skills employers are looking for in job candidates.
Graduates of the program go on to pursue careers in school systems, healthcare, prevention, health education, wellness coordination and more.

Those already holding a health-related bachelor’s degree can advance their career with our wellness promotion master’s degree program.  The program is offered completely online and can be completed in as little as one year. Upon graduation, you will be academically qualified for leadership and managerial positions in worksite wellness programs, university recreation and wellness centers, community wellness facilities, hospitals, clinics and more.

Employment opportunities for students with legal studies degrees are increasing

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 17 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average of all occupations.” Morehead State University prepares legal studies students to immediately enter the work force upon graduation.

During your time as a student in the legal studies program at MSU, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to a variety of community projects including staffing pro se divorce clinics, wills clinics, prescription drug program enrollment for seniors and working with grade school students to conduct mock trials. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside law office professionals, judges, public defenders, county attorneys and non-profit legal service office professionals as part of our internship program.
