Education students receive numerous hours of field experience before graduating

Did you have a favorite teacher that really made an impact on you? Are you interested in teaching middle or high school? MSU’s middle grades and secondary education programs provide you with the hands-on experience you need to be successful in the classroom.
 You will receive 200 hours of field experience before your final semester of student teaching begins. The field experience hours complement the instructional methods classes. Coursework includes:
  • Human growth and development
  • Learning theories, assessment and diversity
  • Educational methods and technology
  • Classroom organization and management
Students pursuing middle grades (5-9) or secondary education (8-12) may choose to teach in one of the following certification areas:
  • Agriculture
  • Art
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Chemistry
  • Earth science
  • English/language arts
  • Health
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physics
  • Social studies
  • English
  • Spanish 
  • French
