New public history program expands career options

MSU’s new public history area of concentration is the first undergraduate degree program of its kind offered in the Commonwealth and is increasing career opportunities in the field.

A Program Tailored to Your Interests
This program is a non-teaching degree path designed for you to explore your interests and choose from a variety of courses based specifically on your career goals. You also have the option of minoring in public history, which provides a strong combination when paired with a number of majors in other fields including art, government, strategic communication, psychology, English and more.

In this program, you will gain hands-on experience through an internship and develop a unique, portable skill set, giving you a competitive edge in the marketplace after graduation.

Rapidly Growing Job Market
Public history is a rapidly growing field with jobs in all levels of government, conservation, law, nonprofit and civil service sectors. Pursuing your degree in public history makes you an excellent candidate for careers in museums and historical societies, public and private archives, libraries, academia, and film and production companies.
